The Metro Manila Subway, dubbed the country’s “Project of the Century” involves the construction of a new underground rapid transit line in Metropolitan Manila and is one of the largest construction projects in the Philippines in recent years.
WJ’s experience on largest infrastructure projects, particularly those in the rail sector, are second to none, with numerous successful projects delivered in the United Kingdom, Canada and Poland, so we were keen to provide our expertise for the works.
The Quirino Highway underground station site, located in Barangay Talipapa, Novaliches, Quezon City provided WJ the perfect opportunity to demonstrate our capabilities. In collaboration with Shimizu-Fujita-Takenaka-EEI JV, an initial pumping test was undertaken at the site to better understand the ground and hydrogeological conditions at the site. This enabled our design team to develop a comprehensive dewatering strategy for the construction of the new cross passage CP101 and the large station box (35m by 235m in plan size), with a dewatering system consisting of 8 initial pumping wells and 7 observation wells, supplemented by an additional 12 wells currently being drilled (as of September 2024).
So far, the works have been successful, and dry ground equals secure construction!
